I am big fan of the v2 camera due to its mechanical simplicity. The newer ‘High Quality Camera’ is quite tricky to get the aperture and focus right, and depth of field is so narrow, that I reverted to using the v2 instead. I also like that the v2 fits onto the mount from picammount.com to have both the camera and raspberrypi as one unit. The newer camera doesn’t fit that mount.

Rather than the camera’s you have reviewed here, I want to use a camera which connects to my pi 2 via USB.
So can anybody recommend a good/high spec dome camera with IR that has a USB connection ?
I am doing this project for fun & on a budget, instead of going down the route of NVR’s & hikvision camera’s etc.

Any recommendations much appreciated

Hi Tony.
Thanks! Yes, indeed there are a lot of choices of cameras for the Raspberry Pi.

Hi Ted.
Yes, having a person standing in front of the camera would be a good idea to test the cameras at night, and see if they can detect some trespassers.
Regards,
Sara 🙂

Showing that they don’t illuminate the background doesn’t do much.
